Let's get fit!

Since my diabetes diagnosis I've been paying more attention to my health.  Over Thanksgiving I got a treadmill.  The doctor says that cardio will really help with the diabetes.  I've been doing really well with the treadmill.  I'm seeing a huge increase in my energy and my numbers are starting to go down. Yay!

With the treadmill I've started to enjoy running again.  This year I've decided it's the year of a fit me!  I've signed up for a few fun 5ks and my first one was yesterday.  My new super fast shoes and my cool hoodie.  Instead of a race t-shirt this 5k/10k gives you a hoodie!

The Seattle Hot Chocolate 5k.  Apparently this race is a big deal and there were thousands of people there!  Even though I had to get up early (hello! 6:45am start time!) I had a great time.  I was home and ready for a nap by 9:00 am.  The start line was a little crazy. While they had people in corrals it was still a slight mess.  It took me awhile to get around people who were walking.

The views though were amazing.  When else do you get to watch the sunrise from the streets of Seattle?  While it was chilly (32 at race time) it was a clear blue sky.  This picture made me love my city even more.

At the end you get a giant cup with fondue, dipping things and hot chocolate.  Oh don't think I didn't laugh at the irony of a diabetic running this race.  I did eat the banana and tried some of the hot chocolate. Very good!

I did head home and take a little nap.  Then J and I took the pups out for a walk along the marina.  Such a beautiful first day of March!  Can't wait for summer time.

Thanks genetics!

Yeah, it's been awhile. :)  Life has been pretty busy.  New job is definitely keeping me busy.  We've done a lot of traveling this year.  Boston to see the Cubs play the Red Sox.  Chicago for the 100 year anniversary.  J got promoted and he is now on days. It took a little while to get used to it but we are both fitting into the new schedule of him being home every night.

A couple of weeks ago I went to the doctor for my annual physical.  Bloodwork was done and results came back that I'm diabetic.  Imagine my shock!  Diabetes runs in the family on my Dad's side.  Good thing is that it should be easily controlled with diet and meds.  My doctor says I'm already ahead of the game because of my weight.  Most individuals are overweight and have to struggle to lose weight.  I just need to get my sugars under control.  I have a fancy little meter that I use every day to check levels.  I'm on a couple different meds.  The biggest thing for me is going to be limiting my carb intake.  I LOVE CARBS!  Thankfully I don't have to cut them completely out of my diet but I do need to be aware of how many carbs I'm eating.

Life is going usual for me since the diagnosis.  I didn't freak out or anything.  My first thought was, "I got this."  Just a small little change to my life.

Almost 2014

Seriously where did the year go? Wow.  I feel like I blinked and 2013 is done.  This year has been a busy year for us.  Travel. Baseball games. Travel to baseball games. New job.

Things are going good on the job front. It's a lot of work but I welcome the challenge. It feels good to have a lot to do.  I like coming into work and feeling challenged on a daily basis to think outside the box and come up with new ideas.

Christmas was good. We went up to see Grandma and J's family.  Ash and Wrigley loved opening up their presents. In fact, they loved opening up everyone's presents.  Lilly mostly hid from the tornado that was Ash and Wrigley.

Sunday I will be 35. Wow.  I certainly don't feel 35.  As I type this my Mom is on a flight to see us.  So excited for that.

Two weeks from today we will be on a plane to Miami. Whoo hoo!  Can't believe the cruise is almost here.

Great news!

I've lost 8 pounds! Wow. I'm super excited. I'm starting to notice a change in my body and I'm loving it. Today I put on a pair of pants I bought that were normally tight.  They were loose!  It's really nice looking in the mirror and seeing positive changes.  I've been really good at watching what I eat and going to the gym.  I've been more conscious of portion sizes and eating mini meals throughout the day. It's amazing what little changes can do.

Next month is our cruise.  A year ago when we booked it seemed like January 2014 was so far away. now it's next month!  I can't wait to go on the cruise. See the crystal blue waters. Ahh. So exciting.

Monday I start a new job.  After 8 years at my current employer I'm leaving for a job that's more aligned with where I want to go in my career. I'm excited for this new adventure. The new job is about 15 minutes from my house so no more hellish commute for me!

Slow like a turtle

I was pretty happy.  The first week I lost a pound.  I know this is going to be a long process.  I need to be patient.  Patience sometimes is not my strong suit. :)  I'm working.  I've been doing well with tracking my food and making sure I'm making good choices.  Though last night I had a serious craving for a double bacon cheeseburger.  Mmm.

I've done really well with going to the gym this week. Worked out with my trainer on Wednesday.  We did a lot of core work. It was tough but I love how I feel when we are done.  It's a great stress reliever.  Things at work are quite hectic and it's good to have an outlet.

New day starting with me!

In January we are going on a Carribean cruise. I seriously cannot wait for it! It's a country cruise and we will have country concerts every single night.  I purchased a few new swimsuits and I'm using them as my motivation to get in shape.  I've been meaning to get back to the gym for, oh I don't know, 2 years? :)  Sunday I finally kicked my ass and went.  I started a new gym that is right down the hill by our house.  They offer a free training session every month and a nice range of classes. Tonight after work I really just wanted to go home and sit on the couch but I didn't.  I went to the gym and ended up spending 1.5 hours on the treadmill watching the Bears game.

I'm feeling really good about the positive changes I'm making in my life.  I was talking to J about it on Sunday and he is fully on board and supportive.  That really helps a lot. :)

Four score and 4 years ago

Thursday J and I celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary.  It seems like just yesterday but at the same time like more than 4 years ago.  I know it's corny but I do feel lucky to have married my best friend.  We have gone through a lot of shit together but I know he's always by my side.  He makes me laugh and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with him.

Both of us had to work on Thursday so we celebrated our day on Friday.  Thursday night we went to dinner at the same place we had our first date.  It's not a super romantic restaurant but it will always be our spot.  Friday morning we dropped the dogs off at PetSmart for play camp and we headed downtown. It turned out to be such a lovely day. The weather was perfect.  We had breakfast, walked through the market, hit a few pubs for some brews and just enjoyed each other's company.  We also stopped by to see Susan and J bought me another wedding band to go with my set.  He actually listened to me 4 years ago. ;)

Looking forward to this week.  Tomorrow is a holiday.  We are headed to the final game for the Rainiers.  I head in to work Tuesday and then I'm off Weds - Fri.  I have a lot of PTO to burn.  I don't know why I didn't just take Tuesday off as well, ha!  Wednesday I'm excited because we have tickets to see the Eagles! So excited for this concert.

Our first dance had a line in it, we can roll with the punches, we can stroll hand in hand.  I absolutely love this line and think it says a lot about our relationship.  We have had a lot of punches thrown our way but we have made it through with each other.  I look forward to many more years with my buddy.

Yikes...Time Flies!

I really need to get better about updating my blog.  I always think about updating it but the time seems to get away from me.  In my defense, I have been a bit busy the last few months.

In May I went down to SD to surprise my Mom for Mother's Day. In the 10 years I've lived up north I have not seen my Mom on Mother's Day.  It was so great to walk in the house and surprise her.  I love that I'm able to do that.  I had a lot of fun spending an extra long weekend with her and my family.  I can't believe how big my niece and nephews are getting! It was really tough saying bye to them all.

J and I have been going to a ton of baseball games this year.  I've LOVED it! At the end of June I took some time off because the Cubs were in town. We ended up going to 7 games in 9 days.  2 of those games were down in Oakland. We hit the Pirates series right before the Cubs game. At the game we had a great idea, "Why not go to Oakland?"  It helped that we got an overpayment on our escrow account the day we decided to do the drive.  It was a lot of fun and some well needed time off for me.  I realized that I was getting pretty burnt out at work.  I came to work this morning nice and refreshed.

The weather has been so beautiful the last few weeks.  Last week it was pretty hot, but I can't complain too much. Thankfully we have AC in the bedroom.
